I've had such a great time participating in Across a Crowded Room over the past 5 years that I decided to join a creative team this year! I wrote lyrics for a new 30 minute musical called "The Amazons of Overcote High". It's an adaptation of the 1893 play "The Amazons" by Arthur Pinero. The story explores themes of identity and legacy. We chose to update the story to take place around a high school homecoming football game in Texas.
A fast and furious process starting in May 2024 ended with a successful reading with AACR in September! We're very excited to remount the show this summer as part of the New York Theatre Festival! I'll share more details once I know more! We'd love to see you there!
