I’m so glad I could be a part of Devon Yates’ Virtual Choirs during this quarantine. Continuing to make art together in these difficult times is increasingly challenging but also increasingly important. Devon’s Virtual Choirs have made me feel connected to artists across the US and given us an opportunity to grieve together.

Obviously, a huge thanks to Devon Yates for organizing, preparing, mixing, and performing in each piece herself. If you’d like to see more from Devon (which you absolutely should), check her out at @devonlavinia on Insta or her YouTube page for more great content!

The first project was “The Song of Purple Summer” from Spring Awakening. Check it out below!

The next project was “Light” from Next to Normal. Fewer people were able to participate, but I think it turned out great!

COVID has decimated the performing arts community. So many talented singers, actors, dancers, stage managers, technicians, costumers, musicians... all forced to abstain from building the career they love for the greater good. I know countless friends who are aching to perform again in front of crowds, but understand that the public health is more important. These are talented, proud, empathetic people who we all would love to see back in the theatre, back where they belong. Please get your vaccine as soon as its available to you. Help all of us get back to doing what we love.
