Welp, I always knew it could happen. I don't have any good pictures of my time in quarantine so here's a sunset at sea instead.
I’ve been very fortunate so far in this pandemic that I’ve been able to quarantine and remain healthy through the initial spike and Delta variant. I knew that returning to the workforce was a calculated risk, and it was a risk I was willing to take. Finally, despite my best efforts, Omicron found me.
Disney has a system now for isolating those that are actively contagious, which was carried out with no issue. They also put protocols in place for all crew members to mitigate any spread. The ship can be a difficult place to contain illness in general but the measures they took did prevent a full cast outbreak. I’m very thankful that those protocols have been instated, even if it prohibits some of our privileges. Even though my symptoms weren’t particularly severe, it’s not something I would wish on anyone.
The worst part for me was that my folks had come to sail the week I became symptomatic and was isolated, so unfortunately I didn’t really get to see them much at all. I’d still rather they be safe, but talk about bad timing! On the flip side, I was able to recover and debark just in time to head to my next contract! Now, theoretically I have 90 days of immunity. I’m still gonna play it safe and always wear my mask. You should too!
